It’s that time of year where Thanksgiving is upon us (2 weeks away!) but we are anticipating Christmas too! I saw it last week on November 1st; all the holiday decorations, food, etc. were in full force…and Starbucks whipped out their holiday red cups. Now you know it is official! But I still say, let’s take our time and enjoy Thanksgiving, for crying out loud!
Anyways, I got a little inspired to make something to blend Thanksgiving and Christmas, food-wise. I have been making pumpkin spice protein shakes for awhile now, and when I saw that the grocery store was already selling egg-nog, I found my inspiration!
This is a great blend of flavors without being “too much”. Definitely a great way to kick up your standard protein shake!
Ingredients:
1 cup milk of choice (I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk)
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (Dymatize brand)
1/4 cup canned pumpkin puree
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp (1/2 if you want it stronger) imitation or pure rum extract (***This will give it the egg nog flavor)
Optional, but recommended:
2 tbsp of Greek yogurt (helps to make it creamier)
Splash of light egg nog (Ok ok so i admit it-I splurged and bought a quart when I saw it! But a little bit goes a long way, so just a splash and you’re good)
1 tsp or packet Stevia
Mix all ingredients in a blender or magic bullet. Serve immediately or chill in the fridge for a few minutes to thicken up a bit. Serve with whipped cream if desired 🙂
