Candied & Spiced Nuts…without any added sugar or fat??? Why yes, it’s true…and very much possible to make! Candied nuts can be very dangerous; nuts are calorie dense because of their high fat content, and then add in sugar and more fat…it can be a double threat! Thankfully this recipe is super easy and healthy without losing flavor. Top on salads, protein pancakes, baked yams/sweet potatoes. It also makes a quick snack or a good item for a party. This can be great when you are craving something sweet yet with texture and crunch! You can make this recipe with any nut, like walnuts or almonds, but I chose to do pecans this time 🙂
Ingredients: (Recipe can be easily doubled)
1 egg white
1/2-2/3 cup pecan halves
2 tsp Stevia
1 tsp of each cinnamon and nutmeg
1/2 tsp allspice
Optiona1: 1 tsp Ideal No-calorie Brown Sugar Sweetener
Beat the egg white until foamy. Stir in the pecans and all the spices and coat evenly. If there is still extra egg white, add in more pecans to where all the egg white mixture is coating the nuts. Spread out evenly on a sprayed baking sheet. Bake uncovered at 250 F for approximately 20 minutes, or until slightly toasty and crunchy. Stir with a spatula about 10 minutes in, in order to prevent the nuts from sticking.
