Do you have a goal of losing fat? Have you been trying on your own with little or no success? I know it can be challenging and overwhelming trying to figure out what to do. Here are some top healthy ways to lose body fat AND keep it off!
- Keep a Food Log: Keeping track of your intake is an excellent way to aid in weight loss. Using a food log is a great accountability tool and way to measure progress. It allows you (your coach, doctor etc.) to see not only what you are eating, but when, where etc. It can help uncover any patterns (what works well versus not) nutritional deficiencies, where to make adjustments when need be and more.
- Eat Better: Instead of just trying to eat less (which isn’t always what you need) focus on eating BETTER foods. Choose high quality ingredients and whole, nutrient dense foods. Go for humanely raised animal products, organic produce, healthy fats and lots of color, herbs and spices.
- Measure Your Portions: While it is always ideal to eat QUALITY food, the amount (QUANTITY) matters too! You want to expend more calories than you consume in order to lose fat. Being mindful of your portions will help keep you on track. Use measuring cups or what I prefer is a digital food scale.
- Move Daily: Have a set exercise routine that you are consistent with. It is recommended to get at least 150 minutes of moderately intense exercise per week. Decide what type of workout looks and feels good to you!
5. Prioritize NEAT: NEAT is the calories you burn during non-exercise activity throughout the day. Basically it is any physical movement you do, like walking, chores, playing with your kids, or even fidgeting! Moving throughout the day will boost your metabolism & overall calorie burn.
6. SLEEP: Prioritize 7-9 hours of quality sleep per night. Studies have shown a link between sleep deprivation and increased chance of obesity!
7. Manage your Stress: This is another area of lifestyle that most people forget about. Chronic levels of stress increase cortisol. Cortisol inhibits fat burning and can actually cause you to gain weight over time! Wondering how to get your stress under control? Check out my full series on STRESS here!
