MYTH OR FACT: Does eating small frequent meals boost your Metabolism? 😁
….
Short answer is NO! Eating several small meals per day does NOT in fact boost your metabolism.
Have you been taught to eat 5-6x small meals every few hours? Science once thought this was the best way to boost metabolism, because every time you eat you are “stoking” the burn.
Research has found this to not be true; you burn the same amount of calories digesting 3 meals over the course of a day than you do 6. So how many meals are best? It is up to you, your preference, goals and schedule!
Research shows that eating at the same time every day helps with two important factors when it comes to keeping your metabolism stoked.
Many people do not have regular meals or an eating schedule 🙊 When we don’t have structure, our blood sugar, energy and focus is on a roller-coaster all day long.
Have you ever skipped a meal or gotten so busy to eat? Only later to over-eat and make less than ideal food choices? All of this is a stress to the body and our metabolism 😬
A regular eating schedule will help create healthy eating more of a routine, provide your body with consistent energy and fuel, reduce cravings and can help prevent over-eating or poor choices (that usually happen when we go too long without food right?!)
Most people feel their best when they eat every 3-4 hours. However, determine how many meals per day works best for your goals, schedule and preference.
My Tips:
- Plan out tentative meals ahead of time
- Prep your proteins and wash/cut your veggies
- Set a timer for meals if you tend to skip them
- Have easy grab and go snacks, like a protein smoothie, for those times where you need a fast meal
- Schedule in time for your day to sit down at eat. Taking time to eat and fuel up is important!
TAKEAWAY – Stick to a regular eating schedule & do what feels best for YOU and your goals.
