As I am writing this, it is the middle of January, and most of the U.S. is experiencing super cold weather and/or snow! Yuck đ
Winter can be challenging if you don’t have a treadmill and can’t get outside to walk.
How can you stay active, when you can’t get outside?!
If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know the importance of daily physical activity (outside of exercise) and to MOVE your body all day long!
So, how can we still hit a step goal and get activity in, when you’re stuck inside?!
Here are some top ways!
- First off: do you have any exercise equipment, like a bike or elliptical? Definitely use your resources (of course a treadmill if you have it too!) as a âwinter swapâ then going outside for walks.
- Stand more often! Invest in a standing desk riser and/or stand more than you sit. Standing is better for your posture and energy, plus burns more calories and boosts your metabolism. Plus, when you stand you’re more likely to take more stepsâŠ
- Pace and be mindful of every little step! Have to take things up or downstairs? Do it in multiple trips. When you are cooking, on a work call, or just tidying up, pace and walk as mindfully as you can. Do laps around your house if need be!
- Try marching in place, side steps, up and downs on a stair, high knees or jumping jacks. These are simple movements but they can really get the heart rate up and get movement in.
- Do exercise bursts throughout the day. This could be 1 min, 5, 10 minutes of heart elevated activity, like squats in the bathroom, pushups on the counter, high knees at the kitchen sink, bridges when playing with your children or pets on the floor.Â
- Get creative – turn some music & dance it out! There’s also tons of YouTube routines for no equipment cardio based options.
- Stay consistent with your exercise. This is going to help a lot if you can’t get out and do normal activity. And if you’re going to the gym? Plan to stay a little longer and get some walking in before and/or after too on the treadmill!
THERE ARE SO MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO MOVE EVERY DAY – we just have to FIND them and DOOO them! đ
