“I can’t seem to stick with my plan!”
This is one of the most common statements I hear. I start working with clients who one of their main goals is to stay consistent with their healthy eating and routine. Do you find yourself doing “really well” for a couple of days, only to encounter some stress, and you find yourself skipping the gym and knee deep in pizza or cookies? Yea, these things happen to all of us!But WHY do you find yourself struggling to stay accountable to your plan, your goals, and can’t seem to be making progress?
The Top Reason’s Why You’re Failing:
Poor Mindset: If you think you will fail, then you most likely will! We have to train our mind so our actions follow. We have to also get rid of extreme, black or white thinking, or aiming for perfection (hint: it doesn’t exist!)
Poor Goals: If the goal itself is not realistic, we won’t be likely to stay motivated to keep working towards. Do you even know WHY you have your goals in the first place?!
Poor Structure: We as humans thrive on expectations and structure. Without these, we can’t follow through and make progress to our goals!These are simple yet very important keys to success and long term results! Without them, we are just on a hamster wheel on being “on & off” and never making any progress.
TOP WAYS TO REACH YOUR HEALTH GOALS
You might have a fantastic goal, but it doesn’t mean anything if you don’t take ACTION. The number 1 challenge I hear from people is “I don’t know to follow through!”
Here are some ways to get that goal into action:
GET YO MIND RIGHT: The more we focus on the positives, the more likely we are to maintain our habits & results. Be mindful of how you think & talk about yourself, your health, your choices. Many of us choose words to describe ourselves and our choices, like “I can’t, never, always” that create a negative cycle with our choices. Switch your thoughts to POSITIVE empowering statements; your body follow your mind!
PLAN IT OUT: With action you need to get prepared! Questions to consider when you’re getting started:What goals or areas are you ready or able to start changing now?What do you need in order to get started? What could you get started on NOW to get you moving forward? Get totally prepared! The more structure you have the better!
EXAMPLES:
• Clean sweep of the junk food in the house
• Deciding when & how you will grocery shop
• Get a food scale & glass containers for food storage/meals
• Getting a gym membership & workout gear
BUILD YOUR TRIBE: Surround yourself in an environment that supports YOU and your goals! Seek out a co-worker, friend, family member etc. that will be supportive and help keep you accountable. Sharing your goals & plans to boost motivation. Having a fellow “wellness partner in crime” can be a great way to try activities together: a new fitness class, workout session, healthy recipes etc!
