Why I Made the Switch to Safe Skincare & Non-Toxic Living

Why I am so passionate about hormones and women’s health?

It’s because I have been there myself.

I have had challenges for many years with hormone imbalances. I, like many of you women out there, struggle with trying to do TOO much; my personality combined with some major events in my life have affected my health.

I had major adrenal dysregulation, my sex hormones were tanked, my metabolism shot.

I went on birth control without realizing the horrible side effects it has.

I never regained my cycle after stopping and had amenorrhea for over 4 years.

I discovered I had hypothyroidism in 2018, where my metabolism dropped, I gained weight, it was hard to function through the work day…I didn’t feel like MYSELF at all.

Basically, my hormones have been through the ringer.

But instead of letting of that discourage me, I asked WHY. WHY was I having these issues? Why wasn’t I getting my cycle, or having thyroid dysfunction?

The Good News of this story is that after many years, I DO have a regular cycle. My adrenals are thriving & my stress is at bay. My thyroid is working beautifully and I feel GREAT. I was able to get my health and my LIFE back all through lifestyle-based changes. No medications or drugs were necessary!

I wanted to LEARN what all I could do on my own to improve my hormone levels, gain my cycle back and boost my thyroid all through my own natural, holistic measures.

Some days I felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere…my estrogen used to be SO low it wouldn’t register on a blood sample! But I knew that my daily consistent changes and efforts WERE making a difference.

The more I researched, the more I learned about how our environment & what we eat, consume, breathe and put on our body makes a HUGE impact on our hormone functioning. I had already been eating a pretty “clean” diet, but what about everything else??

I was shocked to realize all the chemicals that were in my makeup, self care and hair products, cleaning supplies, etc!! Our skin is an organ too and can absorb toxins! Unfortunately these are toxic & are known endocrine (hormone) disruptors. They have also been linked to cancer, Alzheimers, plus other nervous system disorders. Scary and upsetting to say the least!

So the last few years I have been living and then teaching others about the importance of a non-toxic clean way of living. I started ditching all the conventional products and using pure essential oils and personal care products that were void of parabens, phthalates, sulfates etc. I’d read all the ingredients & my “ThinkDirty” app, trying to decipher through the labeling which can be very tricky.

One product with chemicals might not “seem like that big of a deal”. But we don’ just use 1 bad product. The average women is exposed to 100 chemicals just in her home! Chronic, “low level” exposure to these toxins might not produce an “acute” effect, but they WILL affect your hormones long term.

After adopting a cleaner lifestyle, I came across Beautycounter, a company on a mission is to have safe and clean products for all! There are some great emerging safe skincare companies that I’ve tried, but once I found Beautycounter I was sold.
